Kathryn Drake

Kathryn S. Drake, born Washington, D.C., January 27, 1955; admitted to bar: 1979, Kentucky; 1994, North Carolina. Kathryn and her husband, Frank, have 2 children, Anna (26) and Ben (23). Anna graduated from Elon University in 2007 and from the Elon University School of Law in 2010. Anna currently serves as a staff attorney for the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Middle District of North Carolina. On December 26, 2010, Anna married Bryan Dunkum, a law student from Richmond, Virginia. Bryan has his own practice in Graham, NC and often can be seen helping out with closings here. Ben graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 2010 with a B.A. in English. He currently works for Acclaim Federal Credit Union in Greensboro, NC.

Kathryn and Frank live in a home built in 1910 on North Main Street in Wake Forest which they restored. They were awarded an Anthemion Award in 1998 for their efforts. The house has the distinction of being the only house in Wake Forest that is in 3 historic districts. Ardent preservationists, in 2003 the Drakes purchased the William Thompson House (perhaps the only double-pile, pre Civil War, Greek Revial house remaining in Wake County) and moved the house to save it from demolition by the Bay Leaf Baptist Church. The Thompson House which also has the distinction of being Barney's birthplace, has been fully restored and is now a private residence listed on the National Register of Historic Places and protected as a Wake County Landmark. Their current preservation project is Frank's family home in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. This house was built in 1853 also in the Greek Revival style. Frank's family bought the house shortly after the Civil War and it has been in the family ever since.

Kathryn is a member of the Wake Forest Presbyterian Church where she sings in the choir and is active in the Walk Through Bethlehem Ministry and serves on the Membership, Evangelism and Growth Committee.

She served on the Wake Forest Historic Preservation Commission from 1998 – 2002 and was Chair of that organization from 1998 – 2000. Kathryn has served on the Board of Directors of Capital Area Preservation, Inc. (a Wake County area historic preservation non-profit) since 2002 and serves as General Counsel for the organization. She is currently Chair of that organization and also served as Chair from 2004 - 2008.

She is also a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Preservation North Carolina and the Wake County Historic Society.
